SYLLABUS FOR SHARIA COURSES – YEAR 1
The following will be taught over two semesters:
Description | |
Aqidah | Aqidah al-Wasitiyyah of Ibn Taymiyyah which is a foundational resource comprising of Creed of Tawhid and al-Asma wa as-Sifat, Manhaj and Akhlaq. |
Fiqh/Hadith | Umdah al-Ahkam of Ibn Qudamah, which is a collection Hadith’s taken from either al-Bukhari or Muslim or both.
Year 1 will begin with the Book of Purification to the Book of Hajj. (The entire book is to be split over three years) |
Sirah | A world-renowned research and study which took over twenty years to compile – “The Sealed Nectar”. In this module, the learner will engage with the pre-Islamic state of Arabic, both social and political. Then they will study the birth of the best of mankind (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him), his struggles in the Makkan period, success that was granted to him in the Madani period and then his eventual demise (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him). |
SYLLABUS FOR SHARIA COURSES – YEAR 2
Description | |
Aqidah | Kitab at-Tawhid – the rights of Allah (the Most High) over His creation. What is means to be a Muslim and testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Him (the Most High). This module looks at some of the very important basics that every Muslim must know and learn, such as the meaning of the name “Allah”, the purpose of our existence, importance of Tawhid, the severity of Shirk, actions and statements needed to have Tawhid and that which could consist of Shirk (such as a detailed review on the use of amulets, support from the Jinn, black magic etc.)
This module will be based on perhaps that most detailed explanation of Kitab at-Tawhid known as Fath al-Majeed, authored by the Shaykh’s own grandson. It is unique in many ways as it demonstrates how what the author had authored in 12th century is actually connected to Islamic orthodoxy all the way back to the era of the Salaf. This module is also unique because the book has not been translated or offered as course content elsewhere. (This module will be split over Year 2 and 3) |
Fiqh/Hadith | Umdah al-Ahkam of Ibn Qudamah – from the Book of Business Transactions to the Book of Inheritance. |
Tafsir | The learner will engage in a comprehensive study of two of the most important Surah’s of the Quran – Surah al-Fatiha and Surah al-Baqarah. This module is based on the most classical work on Tafsir known as Tafsir at-Tabari. This Tafsir is unique because it bases its explanation on Ahadith and narrations from the Salaf (may Allah be Pleased with them all). To add benefit the learner will also benefit from notes from other books of Tafsir, such as Tafsir as-Sa’di and Tafsir Ibn Kathir and al-Qurtubi. Points of benefit will also be added from the works of Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have Mercy on all those mentioned).
This module is annexed with an additional month over the summer where Tafsir of Juzz 29 and 30 will also be studied. |
SYLLABUS FOR SHARIA COURSES – YEAR 3 (Final Year)
Description | |
Aqidah | See description for Year 2. |
Fiqh/Hadith | Umdah al-Ahkam of Ibn Qudamah – from the Book of Marriage to the Book of Emancipation (end of book). |
Usool al-Fiqh and Sciences of Hadith | A compilation of classical materials, such al-Waraqat and more extensive materials like Rawdah an-Nathir, this module teaches a range of maxims and principles needed to understand the Sharia.
A compilation of classical materials, such as al-Bayqooniyyah and more extensive materials like Tadreeb ar-Rawi ,with a range of principles in the sciences of Hadith, grading them and al-Jarh wa at-Ta’dil. A very technical module but highly important in the life and studies of the Student of Knowledge. |
CLASSROOM TEACHING
All classes will take place in the classroom (with segregated partition). We want to make the learning experience as comfortable and engaging as possible, therefore classroom equipment includes tables, chairs, white board for additional explanation are available and all class content will be presented via wide-screen projector.
We believe that learning should include an eclectic approach hence suggestions, comments and questions are all welcomed as part of our interactive learning experience.
Learning materials and documents will be shared, both that which has been compiled by AhleDhikr Institute and those of books that we will study via PDF format.
Our classes often supplement learning which enhance or reinforce learning. Custom made handouts, worksheets, pair or group work activities, tests, homework, research projects and even the occasional role-play are all part of class time.
DISTANT LEARNING
Learners who are not able to attend or would prefer to study at their own leisure can also be accommodated. We will simply share all class recordings and content once the class has been concluded, that way the distant learner can access class material whenever it suits them.
Playlist of class recordings will be offered to both in-class and distant learners.
